Credo Capital Management, LLC
is a provider of money management products and services for the institutional investor market. Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, the firm currently offers a mid cap growth equity product.

The fundamental objective of Credo Capital Management is to provide superior investment performance over time and through all economic and market cycles. Our mission statement reflects this objective: We circumvent the impact of emotion in the market using proprietary forward-looking tools and disciplined processes to discover opportunities and to control risk for our clients.

Our founder, Tedd Alexander, named the firm Credo to communicate to all stakeholders the intent to build a professional organization, not an organization built around a professional. Our name Credo derives from the Latin word credo, which means “to believe in.” The name was deliberately selected to emphasize how fundamental to our mission it is to earn the confidence of our clients. We believe the process of earning that confidence begins with a system of values that exemplifies quality in all aspects of our business. We expect these values to be embraced by each of our professionals and therefore to pervade the organization and all of its activities.

Client benefits
Although performance is always extremely important, we have learned from our institutional clients over the years that client service, aligned interests, and a strong compliance effort are all extremely important to them as well. As a result, we aim to deliver the combination of these benefits as a complete “package” as opposed to distinct services.

In order to create a complete investment “package,” we have combined a sound investment process with an organizational culture that fosters harmonious interaction of all personnel. The result is an organizational culture that fosters productive interaction by emphasizing client-orientation, curiosity, intellectual honesty, trustworthiness, mutual respect of others, forward-looking orientation, and genuine desire to work constructively with other people. These are the attributes that we believe are essential to creating an organization that behaves by the highest standards of ethics, that embraces teamwork, and that revolves around client service.

Performance-driven
We are absolutely oriented to generating superior performance for our clients. When we say we are performance-driven, we mean that we take active risks in order to drive active returns and therefore to generate an attractive risk-adjusted return profile. We focus our efforts on identifying mispriced securities because we believe this approach provides the greatest opportunity to outperform consistently, over time. Further, our unique culture is designed to not only leverage the skills and knowledge of our research staff for better decision-making, but to induce collaboration in a way that will ensure the sustainability of results as we continue to grow.

Service-oriented
Our goal is to consistently deliver exceptionally high quality of service to our clients. Because we recognize that every client perceives quality of service in their own terms, we make a commitment, a service promise, to every client that incorporates their unique specifications. Our promise to clients begins with listening to and understanding their precise needs. Our promise to clients also conveys our commitment to deliver service dependably and accurately, to serve their needs promptly and efficiently, and to ensure that our professionals are courteous and competent. We believe that creating a reputation for service excellence is a journey, not a destination, and therefore requires our constant engagement.

Aligned interests
Credo is an independently owned and managed investment management organization. Because Credo’s professionals own a majority of company equity, our interests are completely aligned with those of our clients. Much has been written about so called “agency” conflicts and the risk they pose to investment performance. As David F. Swenson, Yale University’s legendary Chief Investment Officer states, “Only when operating in the context of a privately held, portfolio-manager-controlled, independent company do managers possess the ability to consider serving the interests of investors without worrying about the implications for the income statement.”

Compliance
Our clients entrust us with their financial well-being and we take that responsibility very seriously.  From the top of the organization down, we foster an environment of ethical behavior by seeking to instill in every professional an obligation to do what is right.  When circumstances arise which have the potential to present conflicts of interest, we openly discuss the issues to ensure our professionals are aware of potential problems and to ensure that sound, ethical decisions are made.  We believe that having a strong compliance culture is not only the right thing to do in itself, but is ultimately the best way to conduct business.

Our Code of Ethics is the keystone of our compliance program and serves as tangible evidence of the value that Credo places on ethical conduct.  In general, we expect each of our professionals to live up to the letter of the law as an absolute minimum standard of conduct.  We also ask all Credo professionals to abide by the CFA Institute’s ethical standard of avoiding even the appearance of impropriety.  Finally, by encouraging openness and transparency in all of our actions, we minimize the opportunities for unethical behavior to occur.
